Q. Does the IPDS 100 support IPDS stabling command? A. No, the IPDS 100 does not support the IPDS stabling command.
Q. How do I map a specific printer tray to another IPDS Host ID? A. In the IPDS100 web menu under "Source Mapping" you can map an IPDS Host ID to a specific tray on the printer.
Default tray mapping in IPDS100:
IPDS Host ID Printer Tray 0 2 1 3 63 1
If you then want to map IPDS Host ID 1 to Tray 2 ( Second Cassette ) on the printer you do the following:
1) Click on "Add new source mapping" 2) Then set "IPDS Host ID" to "1" 3) Then set "IPDS Tray ID" to "Second Cassette" ( Tray 2) 4) Then click "Add"
Now IPDS Host ID 1 is mapped to Tray 2 ( Second Cassette) on the printer.
Q. Nothing is printed and Writer on AS/400 goes to 'END' status. Why? A. Please make sure that the correct port number has been defined in the printer description. The default port number in the JetDirect card is: 9100.
Q. Printer stops after pressing 'Cancel Job' on the front panel of the printer. Why? A. The IPDS100 does not support "Cancel job" from the front panel of the printer. Printer jobs must be cancelled on the Mainframe or AS400.
Q. When I print IPDS from the AS/400 V5R1 the writer is in status 'WTR' and nothing is printed. A. On OS/400 V5R1 there is a parameter in the PSFCFG, ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FREQUENCY.
If you change ACKNOWLEDGMENT FREQUENCY from 100 pages ( default ) to 5 or 10 pages it will print again.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FREQUENCY
Specifies the frequency, in pages, with which PSF/400 sends IPDS acknowledgment request to a printer. The acknowledgement request responses from the printer contain information about the status of pages sent to the printer (used for reprinting if connections have been down).
Please also in the PSFCFG set RELEASE TIMER to *SEC15. Then PSF/400 will release the printer 15 seconds after the last page has been printed from the spool.
Please also make sure that you apply the latest PTF from IBM concerning AFP printing and TCP/LAN printing.
Q. When printing to IPDS100 the 'Data' LED flashes a couple of times but nothing is printed. Why? A. This error could be caused by the JetDirect card not having the correct gateway address. This will result in a situation where the host can find route to the IPDS100 but the IPDS100 cannot find the route back to the host.
Q. Where can I get infomation about PTF for AFP fixes for V4RxMx? A. Link to IBM support page concerning PTF for AFP fixes for V4RxMx Click here

Q. Why do I get '40 EIO x BAD TRANSMISSION ERROR' when printing from the Host? A. The message with the JetDirect card giving '40 EIO x BAD TRANSMISSION ERROR' when printing from the Host is not related to the IPDS100 DIMM. This is caused by the Host's way of closing down the TCP/IP connection with the JetDirect card.
You will be able to print and you do not need to do anything on the printer when the message "40 EIO x BAD TRANSMISSION ERROR" occurs because after 3 seconds the printer will be ready again and you can continue printing from PC applications or from the Host.
Q. Will the IPDS 100 DIMM report 'Paper Jam', 'Cover Open', 'Toner Low' etc. back to the AS/400? A. The IPDS 100 DIMM with the JetDirect card will report that you have an IRQ (Intervention Required) on the printer. It cannot send the specific description of the error situation back to the AS/400. It will send back the information that there is an IRQ on the printer.
Configuration -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Q. "Buffer Packing" is not set to 'Enabled' in JetDirect Card. Why? A. If the JetDirect Card has a Telnet password defined the IPDS100 DIMM cannot enable "Buffer Packing". Therefore you will have to do it manually using Telnet.
Buffer Packing = 1 = Enabled
Please note that after enabling "Buffer Packing" via the Telnet menu, the "Buffer Packing" will still be seen as "Disabled" on the IPDS100 Configuration Page.
Q. Duplex job is printing slowly. Why? A. Please make sure that the printer has sufficient memory installed.
Q. How can I have the first page printed faster? A. You can speed up the time of printing the first page by using Telnet with the JetDirect card and change the "BUFFER PACKING" from "Disabled" to "Enabled".
Buffer Packing is set automatically from IPDS100 release 1.5.0.3
Here is how you do: 1) Start a Telnet session with the JetDirect card. 2) Then type: menu (press Enter) 3) Then select option 2. TCP/IP Menu (press Enter) 4) Then select option 2. TCP/IP Print Options (press Enter) 5) Then select Y to change settings (press Enter). 6) Then set Buffer Packing to 1 = Enabled (press Enter) 7) Then select 0 to go to Main Menu (press Enter) 8) Then select 0 to Exit Telnet (press Enter) 9) Then select Y to Save Settings (press Enter).

Q. How do I map the 2000 sheet tray (tray 4) on my HP LJ9050, HP 9040mfp and HP 9050mfp? A. The 2000 sheet tray (tray 4) on the HP LJ9050, 9040mfp and 9050mfp is named 'External tray 6'. From IPDS100 web menu in 'Source Mapping' you select the 'IPDS Host ID' (0- 254) that you want to map with 'External tray 6' which is the 2000 sheet tray (Tray4).
Q. I cannot print Edge to Edge on my HP printer with IPDS100. Why? A. HP printer cannot print edge to edge but some models have a setting called EDGE TO EDGE OVERRIDE, which controls the unprintable margins. The default setting is NO and the unprintable margin is approx. 4 mm on all edges. With EDGE TO EDGE OVERRIDE set to YES the unprintable margin is less than 1 mm.
To our knowledge, the following HP printers have the EDGE TO EDGE OVERRIDE function: LJ9000, LJ9000mfp, LJ9040, LJ9050.
Q. I/O Timeout and JetDirect Idle Timeout with IPDS100 A. HP printers I/O Timeout: I/O Timeout is used to control the different input ports such as parallel port and EIO ports. The I/O Timeout does for parallel/EIO port's what 'Idle Timeout' does for JetDirect.
You might need to increase the I/O Timeout if the printer is heavily loaded using different interfaces/ports and you notice e.g. network print job printed in the middle of parallel port print job.
The I/O Timeout is set automatically to 60 seconds in all IPDS100 except for lj5100/lj8150 so here you need to set it manually to 60 seconds.
JetDirect Idle Timeout: IDLE TIMEOUT - This is how long the HP JetDirect will wait before closing an idle TCP print data connection. Changing this to a low timeout will cause printing and connectivity problems.
Please use the default settings for the Idle Timeout, 270 seconds.
Q. My HP LJ4100 is initializing again and again. Why? A. You have not connected the JetDirect card to the network. Please power of the printer and connect the network cable to the JetDirect card and power on the printer and now the printer will be 'Ready'. Q. Smiling faces are printed when I print to the IPDS 100 DIMM. Why? A. Check that the IPDS 100 DIMM is installed correctly in the printer. Check on the printer that the 'PERSONALITY' parameter is set to AUTO in the 'CONFIGURATION MENU'.
Q. Some times I get an extra blank page when printing duplex jobs on HP 9055mfp or HP 9065mfp. Why? A. If duplex IPDS printing is required, the "Page Counter Update" setting must be set to "Early Update" and an extra blank page might be printed due to a printer engine limitation. The blank page will appear only when last job before the IBM host releases the printer is a duplex job where the number of pages is not in multiple of 8 logical pages (4 physical pages).
Q. The national characters are not printed. Why? A. Please make sure that you have selected the correct code page in the IPDS 100 DIMM. Please see EuroForm IPDS 100 User Guide for information on how to set the code page.
Q. Troubleshooting guide when a IPDS100 installation is not working. A. Here is a guide to check the IPDS configuration on the host and the printer with IPDS100 DIMM.
1) Check the timers and port numbers.
You need to have following parameters in the printer. a) Set I/O Timeout to 60 seconds. b) Set Jetdirect Idle Timeout to 270 seconds.
On the Host you will have to set the following parameters.
If you use AS/400: a) Set "Port number" to "9100" in Device Description. b) Check that a "PSFCFG" has been defined in the Device Description. c) Set "Release Timer" in PSFCFG to " *SEC15 ".
or
If you use Mainframe OS/390 a) Set "DISCINTV" (Disconnect interval timer) to 30 seconds. b) Set "PORTNO" to "9100"
2) Please check requirements. Click here to go to requirements.
3) Check if the printer has the correct firmware level.
4) Check our FAQ to see if your problem has been solved.
5) Check the complete host configuration - please see IPDS100 User Guide. Click here to download IPDS100 User Guide.
6) If your problem is related to wrong text, wrong font, missing text, text not positioned correctly, missing pages etc. you can make a data stream trace with the IPDS100. Please see Diagnostic Tool on page 34 in the IPDS100 Users Guide. Click here to download IPDS100 User Guide.
7) If this guide could not help you, please send an Email to: support@euroform.com with a detailed description of your problem and following documentation: - Good and bad print examples where the error is clearly marked. - Internal data stream trace from the IPDS100. - Configuration pages from the printer. - Configuration page from the IPDS100. - Copy of the AS/400 Device Description and PSFCFG - Copy of the start up PROG from the mainframe. - Copy of the AS/400 system log with error messages. - Copy of the Mainframe system log with error messages. Q. When configuration pages are printed on the printer the JetDirect page is missing. Why? A. When the IPDS 100 is installed and the configuration pages are being printed, only the printer Configuration Page and the IPDS 100 Configuration Page are printed, the JetDirect Configuration Page is not printed.
This is an error in the printer firmware and will be corrected in a newer printer firmware from HP.
Q. When I add margins for a specific tray the Back Top Margin is set to the same as Front Left Margin. Why? A. A minor error exists in IPDS 100 ChaiService version 1.1.2.3 and earlier and the result of this is that the Back Top Margin is saved with the same value as Front Left Margin. A work around in this version is to add the margins for the tray first and then edit them. When you edit the margins, the values will be saved correctly.
The error will of course be corrected in the next release of IPDS 100.
Q. When I try to run the Diagnostic Tool I get a Memory Reference Error in my Internet Explorer. Why? A. In IPDS 100 ChaiService 1.1.2.3 and earlier you are required to use Java Plugin 1.2 to run the Diagnostic Tool. Unfortunately, there is an minor error in this plugin to Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and earlier that causes the memory error. You can avoid this problem by downloading and installing Java Plugin 1.3. Contact EuroForm to get the latest version.
Q. Why can I not address Tray 4 on my HP LJ9000 / HP LJ9000mfp? A. You have to add the source mapping for Tray 4.

Q. Why can I not print from Tray 5 on my HP LJ9055mfp/LJ9065mfp? A. In the IPDS100 web menu under "Source Mappings" you will have the following trays to map and here is the translation between the physical trays on the printer and the names in the IPDS100 "Source Mappings" menu.
Multi Purpose Tray = Tray 1 in right side of the 9055 First Cassette = Tray 2 under the printer Second Cassette = Tray 3 under the printer Third Cassette = Tray 4 under the printer Envelope Tray = Tray 5 in right side of the 9055.
Please map the correct IPDS Host ID to the correct trays on the 9055.
Q.Why can I not print IPDS job from my Towerfeed trays? A. In the IPDS100 Web configuration menu you will have to add the new trays from the Towerfeed to the IPDS100 configuration.
Here is an example of how to map 3 trays. If you have a Towerfeed with more than 3 trays you just add the additional trays.
1) In the IPDS100 web configuration in left side you select "Source Mapping". 2) Then you select "Add new source mapping" 3) From the list in "IPDS TrayID" you then select "Tray 4" (first tray from top on Towerfeed). 4) From the list in "IPDS Host ID" you then select the "IPDS HostID" number to be used for this tray, e.g. "6" 5) Then you select "Apply" to save settings.
6) In left menu you the select "Source Mapping". 7) Then you select "Add new source mapping" 8) From the list in "IPDS TrayID" you then select "Tray 5" (second tray from top on Towerfeed). 9) From the list in "IPDS Host ID" you then select the "IPDS HostID" number to be used for this tray, e.g. "7" 10) Then you select "Apply" to save settings.
11) In the left menu you then select "Source Mapping". 12) Then you select "Add new source mapping". 13) From the list in "IPDS TrayID" you the select "Tray 6" (third tray from top on Towerfeed). 14) From the list in "IPDS Host ID" you then select the "IPDS HostID" number to be used for this tray, e.g. "8" 15) Then you select "Apply" to save settings. 16) In the left menu you then select "Source Mapping".
In this example you will then see 3 mappings in "Source Mapping"
IPDS HostID: 6 IPDS TrayID: Tray 4
IPDS HostID: 7 IPDS TrayID: Tray 5
IPDS HostID: 8 IPDS TrayID: Tray 6
This is just an example so if you want to use another "IPDS HostID" you can do so.
Q. Why can my duplex printer not print duplex with IPDS100 Release 1.5b? A. With IPDS100 Release 1.5b there is a problem with the autosensing of duplex. To solve the problem go into the IPDS100 web menu, select 'IPDS Settings' and then change 'Duplex Installed' from 'AUTO' to 'YES'.
Q. Why is the HP CLJ4600 not printing in Color using IPDS 100 Release 1.3? A. There are currently no support for Color in IPDS 100 Release 1.3, so the IPDS 100 for HP CLJ 4600 is only capable of printing IPDS in black/white.
IPDS100 Release 1.5.0.1 or higher now has support for Color.
Q. Why is the output not moved when I change the settings of the margins? A. The error of margin adjustments not working has been solved in IPDS100 Release 1.3.
Q. Why is the printer cycling between 'Ready' and 'Processing job' and nothing is printed? A. If the job is printed outside printable area you will see that the printer will cycle between 'Ready' and 'Processing job' and the host will not allow the job to be printed.
In the web menu "IPDS Settings" you can change "Exception Reporting" from 'No filter' to 'Skip Both'. Then the IPDS100 will not report back to the Host that the job is being printed outside printable area. With 'Exception Reporting' set to 'Skip Both' the job is properly not printed correctly now and there could be missing some of the text in the top, bottom or left/right side of the paper. To solve this you have to use the "Margins" settings in the web menu to correct this. Here you can move the output on the page. Please click the ' ? ' for help on the Margins settings.
