GENERAL INFORMATION: The Euro symbol is not resident in the older generation of HP LaserJets, there are solutions majoring on compatible SIMMs and DIMMs that simply fit into the printer, adding the Euro sign to the relevant character sets. Future HP printers will include the Euro sign at the defined places in the new character sets. Accordingly, new (and patched) applications will address the Euro sign at the defined places, posing no problem for the printers of the future. Your existing printers will, at best, print out a space in place of the Euro sign. In the worst case, the printer will print whichever character is designated to this place in the character set, or perhaps a non-existing character set was chosen and an unwanted character is printed. Or your printers have been upgraded with the Upgrade module. Then, your existing printers, too, will have the new character sets at their disposal. The UpgradeSIMM operates in PCL-mode, and not in an emulation, such as IPDS, or PostScript. With the EUROSIMM, your printers include the Euro signs in the corresponding font styles. The new character sets: - PC 858 (replaces PC850), 13U (replaces 12U) - Roman 9, 9U (replaces Roman 8, replaces 8U) - ISO 8859/15 Latin 9 (replaces ECMA 94) - Windows character sets with Euro sign (19U, 9E, 5T, 19L, 12J, 5M) SAP R/3 - Euro printing Standardised SAP R/3 only supports printing of the Euro sign with printer which use the device type SAPWIN and print over SAPLPD. However, thanks to the Euro upgrade modules nearly all HP printers support the printout of the Euro sign. UNIX application Most products developed for Unix use printer fonts. Where possible, use the newly defined character sets (PC 858, Roman9, ISO 8859/15 Latin 9) and equip your printers with the UpgradeSIMM. If it proves difficult or impossible to switch to the new character sets and you have been using the character sets PC 850, Roman8 or ISO 8859/15 Latin 1(ECMA 94), the EuroSIMMPlus might be the better solution. The UpgradeSIMM operates in PCL-mode, and not in an emulation, such as IPDS, or PostScript. |
